A senior U.S. Department of Justice official has delivered a reassuring message to the crypto community, emphasizing that software developers working in good faith won't face prosecution. Matthew Galeotti, acting assistant attorney general, stated federal criminal statutes won't be weaponized to regulate the digital asset industry.

The remarks come amid high-profile convictions of crypto developers, including Tornado Cash's Roman Storm and Samourai Wallet's team. Galeotti's Wyoming speech drew applause as he declared: "Merely writing code without ill intent is not a crime." The DOJ appears to be drawing a line between legitimate innovation and criminal activity in the blockchain space.
